About me

Welcome! I’m Rachel.

I am so happy to have you here.

I’m a wife, a mom and a business owner, but my true passion is all things food and travel. Not only do I love food, more so, I love cooking, baking, creating, developing and being in the kitchen – and being inspired by food from all over.

I’m no professional chef. I am a proud self-taught home cook who simply wants to share her love for all things food with you as I continue to teach myself techniques.

Why “The Hungry Blasian”

I am a proud half Black (dad), half Filipino (mom) woman, hence the name – “The Hungry Blasian.”

I was raised with a Creole catering grandmother, and a mother who catered on the side in addition to working her full-time job, teaching me Filipino cuisine and cooking techniques growing up. I was also blessed with a grandmother-in-law who was known for her country soul food cuisine – selling her famous desserts to the community.

Food has never just been something I eat – it was a celebration of love, life and togetherness.

Cooking should be fun

In my opinion, cooking should be fun but flexible. Although some may have more experience in the kitchen than others, I hope that this space will encourage you to be comfortable and confident in the kitchen. We all start somewhere.

But remember, at the end of the day, a meal always tastes better when enjoyed with the ones you love most.

Now, let’s eat! Kain tayo!
